It all started with a 1950 dodge powerwagon, a chainsaw, and stubborn determination— Founder Russ Walker would sustainably source spruce trees from around the family home 12 miles outside Homer, Alaska, drag them through the woods back to his shop, mill, and “join” them piece by piece into beautiful wooden homes all over south central Alaska and beyond. Today, owner Sammy Walker continues that legacy crafting homes in the Smokey Bay Beamery shop, sourcing douglas fir, yellow cedar, and local spruce from trusted sawmills that understand and share the same passion for quality and wood.

Timber framing
is a centuries-old craft that has evolved with modern technology to produce appealing and long-lasting buildings. Timberframes give the interior of a home an elegant architecture with a natural feel, by using heavy timber posts, beams, and other supporting elements. Alaska Timberframe embraces both traditional hand-crafted techniques, as well as modern enclosure systems for a wide range of attractive and cost-effective residential, recreational and commercial buildings.
